Creating Finnish success stories

Our long-span way of operating and expertise in local markets pave the way for excellent results. Together with our Finnish and international partners, we have created strong market positions for numerous brands.

Transmeri's first long-term principal relationships were created as early as 1931 with SC Johnson and 1933 with Chanel. These contracts are still effective today. In its history of more than 80 years, Transmeri has created several success stories in the Finnish market: today's market leaders here are e.g. Off repellents, Raid pesticides, Hermesetas sweeteners, Alpen muesli bars and Glade air fresheners.

From generation to generation

Danish businessman Gunnar Didrichsen founded Transmeri in 1928. At the time, in the words of the founder, "Finland was a mere white speck on the map", but the visionary who had travelled the world and studied in Europe saw the region's potential for success and decided to start business operations.

Gunnar Didrichsen worked as Transmeri's CEO for 60 years, from the start of the company until as late as 1988. When Gunnar retired after a long and successful career, his son Jon Didrichsen worked as the CEO from 1988 to 2009. The youngest child of the founder of the company, Ann Marie Didrichsen was at Transmeri's helm from 2009 to 2013.

The life's work started by Gunnar Didrichsen is continued by all four of his children and their families. Transmeri is not just a company or a workplace: it's the Didrichsens' second family, and all the family members are involved in its operations.  A third generation is being initiated into continuing the family business and being responsible owners.

Cultural offerings since 1965

Transmeri's founder and long-time CEO, Danish-born Gunnar Didrichsen, married Marie-Louise Granfelt in 1939. They shared love for art from the beginning and over the years, acquired numerous works for their collection. They had a rule for buying art: they both had to like the acquired artworks.

The Didrichsen museum was opened to the public in September 1965. It has repeatedly ranked as one of the most popular art museums in Finland in the recent years.

Transmeri invests into environmental matters actively and systematically. We received the ISO 14011 environmental certificate in 1999. The certificate covers manufacturing, importing, marketing and storing of chemical products.

The whole Transmeri staff has been trained in environmental matters, because environmental training is an essential part of our employee induction. With the help of a certified environmental management system we can manage our environmental matters in a centralized way and reduce environmental impact in all our operations.

Aiming for environmental awareness and reducing waste

Our environment-related goals include raising environmental awareness and reducing the amount of landfill waste. We openly report about our activities to our clients, consumers, staff and other interest groups.

We have cut down the amount of waste in half compared to 1999.  This has been achieved by collecting energy waste and with the help of more efficient waste sorting.

We increase environmental awareness by e.g. the following means:

  • We strive to use product materials that have a smaller environmental impact.

  • We monitor the level of our principals' environmental protection activities with the help of environmental surveys.

  • We inform about product-related environmental issues, such as eco-labels.

  • We improve environmental awareness with our product manuals and material safety data sheets.

  • We assist our clients and consumers to use our products.

A modern factory equals less consumed energy

The majority of our products are manufactured at our new production facilities in Piispankylä, Vantaa. The new factory consumes a significantly lower amount of energy in comparison to the old one. This has been achieved e.g. with the help of a cooling water recycling system that not only saves water but also collects the charged energy from it. We use green electricity at our factory.

We receive information about the environmental impact of our operations by monitoring waste amounts and types, electricity, fuel oil and water. The functionality of our environmental system is evaluated with internal and external inspections.

Transmeri contributes to the society in many ways, of which the most important is our role in the Didrichsen Art Foundation. The Didrichsen Art Museum celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2010, and has for several years been among the 10 most visited art museums in Finland.

Transmeri's founder and long-time CEO, Danish-born Gunnar Didrichsen, married Marie-Louise Granfelt in 1939. They shared a love for art from the beginning, and this love resulted in the founding of The Didrichsen Art Museum in Kuusisaari, Helsinki.

National and international

The couple had a rule for buying art: they both had to like the acquired artworks. The collection includes Finnish paintings from the 20th century from such artists as Edelfelt, Cawén, Schjerfbeck, Särestöniemi, Linnovaara, Hiltunen and Pullinen. Noteworthy international artists include Picasso, Kandinsy, Miró, Léger, Moore, Giacometti and Arp.

Today the foundation is at the hands of the second generation. The original vision of Marie-Louise and Gunnar Didrichsen is still the leitmotif for the operations: “We sincerely hope that our museum will remain the home of everything beautiful: art, architecture and nature and that it will give others as much joy as it has given us.”
