Transmeri Sustainability Report 2020

Transmeri has developed its long-term sustainability targets and publishes its first sustainability report. Transmeri has chosen to anchor its corporate social responsibility work in the United Nation’s (UN) internationally known 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We support progress on all 17 sustainable development goals both in Finland and abroad, but we have identified the following two goals as the most important ones for our business operations: 12 – Responsible consumption and production and 13 – Climate action.

Transmeri is a family-owned company founded in 1928, where sustainability has always been at the heart of operations. Sustainability means focusing on business opportunities that are more sustainable for the environment, enabling a better life for humans. We are also a sustainable employer for more than hundred Transmerians in Finland, Estonia, and Sweden, says Transmeri’s CEO Sari Rosin.

Transmeri’s five focus areas:

1. Responsible procurement
90 % of Transmeri’s suppliers are committed to the Supplier Code of Conduct or equivalent principles by the end of 2022.

2. Product packaging
All of the products we sell have recycling instructions either on the packaging, on our website or on our online stores by 2025.
Increasing the share of recycled materials whenever it is reasonable and possible. We prefer plastic alternatives in product packaging in ways that do not compromise the quality, freshness, or safety of the product.
By the end of 2021 we will have set goals for the recyclability of plastic packaging used by our own brands and for reducing the use of plastics.

3. Product assortment decisions
We bring ecological product innovations to market and offer consumers more sustainable choices as a continuous part of our operations.

4. Product safety and minimization of wastage
In 2021 we will create a wastage report that specifies the place where our products ultimately end up. Based on this report we set a concrete goal for the minimization of wastage.

5. Carbon neutrality
Carbon neutrality of our premises, commuting and transportation by 2030.

We want to be ambitious in developing our sustainability practices forward and communicate even more actively about the measures that we as a company and our brands are taking. In our portfolio we have 90 brands, most of which are globally recognised consumer brands.

Our sustainability targets are ambitious, and sustainability will always be part of our operating model both today and in the future. Our goal is to entrench sustainability ever deeper into the operations of our organisation and our stakeholder groups, says Transmeri’s Business Director Katia Gustafsson.
